Don't miss... 18 Apr 2009 Jean, USA:
Smithsonian, The Mall, Alexandria, Washington Monument, Bureau of Engraving. These are all free and walking distance from the hostel, except Alexandria, which can be reached on the Blue Line and they have a free DASH shuttle at the Metro stop from 11:30am to 10pm to take you into downtown historic Alexandria.
For good eats check out... 28 Apr 2009 Barbara, USA:
For something different to eat, try a restaurant about 2 blocks from the hostel that has food from El Salvador. Also check out the food in the American Indian Museum. It is interesting to look at, taste good, and was a better value than most things in DC.

21 Apr 2009 Richard, Canada:

For great nightlife try... 18 Apr 2009 Jean, USA:
Georgetown, Dupont Circle, Adams-Morgan. But be prepared to spend $$$.
18 Apr 2009 Jean, USA:
Historic Jamestown. If you can get there, they have done amazing things with the Historic Jamestown area. It is a national park and the admission is $10/person but well worth it. They have a great cafe on the grounds that has outstanding food at very reasonable prices. It's about a 3 hour drive but well worth it. You can usually stay at one of the Colonial Williamsburg two lower end hotels for either $59 or $99 for a room with two beds AND a fantastic free breakfast. Those are greater value than the hostel, by far!!!! The breakfast was amazing and you're only 8 miles from Historic Jamestown. This is not to be confused with Jamestown Settlement, which appears to be a Disneyland type attraction where you have to pay a separate admittance but get to go on replica ships etc.
