Pier 39 is a really nice place. A good thing to do is to by a ticket for a hop on hop of bus that is valid for two days. It is 35dollars pr person but it is really worth it. You can see all the good places in the city, and that is really a great way to get around. Alcatraz is also worth a visit. I went on the night tour, and it was beautyful to get the night view of the city with all its lights. The audio tour is really interesting told by people who have worked there and and people who have served time at the island.

New York is a wonderful city and should not be missed.

HI Hostel HI - San Francisco - Fisherman's Wharf Hostel Information Page

HI-San Francisco Fisherman's Wharf is the first -- and most famous -- hostel in the "City by the Bay." This is the ideal choice for travelers who want to stay in a park setting with stunning views, but still have easy access to the city's urban delights. HI-San Francisco Fisherman's Wharf is housed in historic Fort Mason at the edge of the Golden Gate National Recreation Area, one of California's most beautiful and diverse National Parks. The hostel sits right on the waterfront, overlooking the San Francisco Bay with stunning views of Alcatraz and the Golden Gate Bridge. Scenic, paved foot/bike paths run from the hostel, along the water, east to Fisherman's Wharf and west to the Marina Green, making for a beautiful, bayside morning walk or ride whichever direction you choose. Fort Mason is worthy of exploration in and of itself, boasting theaters, galleries, and performance spaces as well as outdoor activities. In addition to shared dorms we offer private rooms sleeping up to 4 people. Free linens and towels as well as daily housekeeping service are included, and laundry facilities are available on site. A free continental breakfast is provided every morning in our on-site restaurant, Cafe Franco, with fruit, toast, bagels, or waffles. Cafe Franco also serves healthy, organic lunches and dinners at affordable prices, and you'll find locals as well as hostellers enjoying the great quality food and gorgeous views. If you prefer to cook your own meals, we have a spacious, fully-equipped guest kitchen, and you can dine either in the large dining room or on the outdoor deck, both with the beautiful bay views. The hostel is equipped with free WiFi, and provides high-speed Internet facilities for rent. Cozy up at the end of your long day of sightseeing next to the wood-burning stove in our lounge, or make new friends over the foosball and pool tables in the game room. Be sure to take advantage of the free or low-cost activities the hostel organizes daily, such as pub-crawls, walking tours, and day trips out to the Napa Wine Country or to the gorgeous Yosemite Valley. HI-San Francisco Fisherman's Wharf is your urban oasis in the City by the Bay! "Stay in one of the city's most historic buildings, set in an urban national park with unrivalled views over San Francisco Bay to the bridge… A cheery, buzzing place with helpful staff." --Sydney Morning Herald "This top-notch hostel is set within the expansive lawns of Fort Mason, mere paces from the bay, and has great public rooms, tons of activities and a cafe." --Lonely Planet "If you want character, good prices and a great location, this is the place." --Gayot.com FOR MORE INFORMATION AND PHOTOS, VISIT OUR WEBSITE AT SFHOSTELS.COM. | more......
