For great nightlife try... 23 Oct 2009 FIONA, Mexico:
Irish place on O'Farrell has good music
For good eats check out... 21 Oct 2009 Libby, Australia:
The food emporium at the basement level of the Nordstrom/ Bloomingdales shopping centre on Market st has a MASSIVE range of eating places at very reasonable prices. Steaks, Mexican, Japanese, Korean, salads, soups, etc., etc. The meals are excellent quality (much better than you'd expect from a food hall) & the portions are HUGE. I had a tri-tip sirloin with mash & grilled vegetables - cost $11 & it was so big, I could only eat 1/3 of it. The combo fajitas from the mexican (prawns, beef & chicken) was the same..... Huge & excellent quality.
For great nightlife try... 21 Oct 2009 Libby, Australia:
Beach Blanket Babylon - HILARIOUS musical theatre production. I paid extra so I could have the best seat in the house ($71) as I was on my own & wanted a treat. It was worth every cent. For details, just google it, & the staff at the hostel will happily book it for you.
Don't miss... 21 Oct 2009 Libby, Australia:
A day trip to Sausalito - $19 return on blue & gold fleet ferry. Gorgeous little 'resort' town, 1/2 an hour from the hustle & bustle of the city. 1st ferry leaves at 11am weekdays. Alcatraz - of course!! The bay cruise ($26) is really interesting - not dull & boring as you might expect!!
21 Oct 2009 Libby, Australia:
Yosemite - It is STUNNING. I took a day trip from San Fran with Extranomical Tours ($115) but wish I'd stayed out there for a few days. The air is fresh, the park is pristine. If you only have a day to spare, I'd highly recommend this trip - the guide was entertaining & really informative. I also did a helicopter flight over the Grand Canyon & while there is no doubt that it's incredible, Yosemite seems to be much more full of life.......... Don't miss it.
For good eats check out... 21 Oct 2009 Caitlin, USA:
rosamunde sausage, lower haight
For good eats check out... 20 Oct 2009 Joanna, USA:
The cheesecake factory rooftop terrace in union square
Don't miss... 20 Oct 2009 Joanna, USA:
the comedy night at the clubhouse, BYOB and reduced entrance fees, great night
For good eats check out... 20 Oct 2009 Dara, USA:
The Stinking Rose: A Garlic Restaurant in North Beach. Not all meals are cheap, but you can order a side of heaping veggies for cheap and enjoy the complimentary garlic spread and bread. Mmmm, so good, but make sure to drink a lot of water. -Ghirardelli square has three Ghirardelli stores, get a free sample at each to skip the dent in the wallet. :) -Not food but best budget deal was a 7-day MUNI pass as the cable cars is 5$ each way and the buses are 2$.
For great nightlife try... 20 Oct 2009 Dara, USA:
Union Square area, for me, was a bust for youth night life, maybe elsewhere is better, but everywhere seems to close at 12 so start early enough.
