On Geary there is Max's which is a good value for the money, but watch the benefits charge they add on. I asked about it and was told that in SF everyone that works there and lives there gets free medical services and this is how they re-coup their money. I did not find that at all restaurants however. Another good restaurant is called "Vitos", just up from Union Square. Good value for pasta-not romantic and very busy.
