Three blocks from Grocery Outlet, six(?) blocks from Ralphs, and a very nice kitchen = all the best food you can cook. Can't really say much about local restaurants except it seems to be mostly pubs and seafood. Nothing really for celiacs or simply gluten sensitive people, especially eating on the cheap.

All the beaches in San Diego County are nice! They're easily reachable by public transit. I took bus #9 to the east side of Mission Bay, then take #8 on the way back. These two lines run frequently during the summer!
