Mt. Washington, drive up highway 19A to Campbell river and stop in the many artists studios along the route. In Campbell river notice the Hugh amount of first nations art publically displayed. If you are tired of hosteling, the "passage view motel" in town, is $84compared to a private hostel room for$70 with shared bath. If you sate planning to go over to ucluelet and tofino, depending on your taste and tolerances, I would stay at a hostel in ucluelet and make the 45 minute drive over to tofino to see for yourself. The surging scene in the summer is intense. The scenery in the bay is fantastic. Do stop out at "long beach" and spend time a real great place to meet lcal sorfers or get lost. Oh, when in campbell river, take the short drive and hike to elk falls, pretty cool.

Perkin's Coffee just up the street has some good affordable light breakfast and lunch fare, and it's a great place to get a classic Nanaimo Bar! Acme Food Co. a few blocks away has some tasty food too and good sushi at reasonable prices... I highly recommend their teriyaki salmon filet.
For great nightlife try... 26 Apr 2011 Jonathan, USA:
The Dinghy Dock Floating Pub over on Protection Island is a fun excursion. It's a nice boat ride across the harbor for good food and drink in a unique atmosphere, and if you have time while you're over, Protection Island is a rather nice place to walk around, particularly near sunset, where there are great views towards the city and mountains.
