Harpers Ferry - do walk direct to the historical centre from the hostel ... about 2 scenic miles along the riverside and saves parking charges and using tourist bus.

Not Much in Harper's Ferry. Go down 340 to Charles Town and try the 'Tap Room' at the bowling alley. 44 draught beers and a lot of the locals go there.

Maryland Heights. It's a pretty steep hike, but the views are well worth it. It overlooks Harpers ferry from above the train tracks that go through the cliff wall.

HI Hostel Harpers Ferry Hostel

Just two miles from Harpers Ferry National Historic Park, this cozy lodge stands high on a bluff, overlooking the confluence of the Potomac and Shenandoah Rivers. The hostel is perfect for visitors to the Civil War Battlefields of Western Maryland. ( Antietam, Catoctin, Monocacy). Washington, DC, Baltimore , MD and Gettysburg, PA are only an hour away. You can hike the Appalachian Trail, bicycle the C&O Canal, float down the river on an inner tube, raft or canoe. Use our equipment to play Frisbee, Volleyball, or Badminton. Relax beside the fireplace with a good book from our extensive library, or build a campfire outside for 'S'mores'. The Contemporary American Theatre Festival and live music clubs are in nearby Shepherdstown, West Virginia.
