Ravenna! The mosaics in San Vitale are just incredible

Try to find small shops making fresh sandwiches from selected ingredients. Very good and inexpensive!

Not really an option if you don't have a car. Too far removed and no lights after dark. Also, lots of mosquito's and biting insects. I was bitten by something or other the first night -3 huge welts on my abdomen the next morning, which took 2 weeks to heal. They are still visible, 3 weeks after the fact. No idea what bit me, but it hurt. Windows open onto a hugely treed botanical camping ground and nature reserve so lots of mosquitos and no way to keep them out of your room because it was too hot to keep the windows closed - sweltering.
For great nightlife try... 10 Aug 2009 Julian, Australia:
The hostel! Because this hostel is somewhat distant from the city center, most people stayed around the hostel and socialised there.

You must eat at iguigiulo (sp?) which is across the street from the entrance to the hostel gate. Amazing food and wine for a great price, you will probably be the only non locals in there which is always a good sign amd the staff is the best!!!

Breakfast was very poor. OJ was sugared powder drink. Cereal was okay. Coffee was machine-generated and poor quality. Breads were not very fresh, not very palatable. After first day, we bought our own yoghurt, fruit and juice and ate that.
Don't miss... 01 Aug 2009 Dawn, Canada:
Walked around a # of museums - some lovely statues and art works. Interesting market, but the vendors watched you like a hawk - felt like they were expecting us to try and steal something - most unnerving. We left.
01 Aug 2009 Dawn, Canada:
We had come from Cinque Terre - magnificent and went on to the Amalfi Coast. Would recommend adding days to either end and skipping Florence next visit. Certainly would not stay at that hostel again.
Don't miss... 31 Jul 2009 Francisca, Netherlands:
Fiesole, nice little town with great sights a 30min busride from the SMN train station.
Don't miss... 29 Jul 2009 KATHERINE, England & Wales:
If you can, take a trip up to Fiesole - particularly when it's dark - as you get the most incredible view over Firenze
