bocadillos! at least one shop/takeout place on every street sells cheap sandwiches called bocadillos which are definitely your best bet for cheap eats in this city where restaurants can be pricey. if you want a good restaurant meal try a place caled "Vin y something" it is on the same street as the main barcelona train station and you get a jug of good local red wine free with your meal. tough to order there if you don't speak spanish though, in my experience.
For great nightlife try... 09 Jun 2009 Sarah, USA:
Flamenco dancing was cheap and fun.

gaudi's masterpieces, especially la sagrada familia and parc guell. walk down las ramblas on the weekends especially for entertainment. there is an imax around the marina, but instead walk around the beach and get blasted on sangria or something.

southern france (marseilles?), or northern italy (and small town in the mountains is beautiful). but really just go to southern germany and have a good time.

AVOID eating at La Rambla (but don't miss visiting). It is extremely commercialized. We got a Sangria which was just OK. If you are an average american you may like the food but the real Spanish food is in the Bari Gothic Area near Metro 'Juame'
Don't miss... 09 Oct 2008 Shyam, USA:
Sagrada Familia, Parc Guell, Bari Gothic area and Montserrat (45min away from City)
