Any place outside the hostel. So is much more variety. Lapa is good. |

25 Jui 2011 Len, Etats Unis:
It's Rio. It's best to explore Rio for yourself and get tours outside the hostel and use the bus system. |

I would suggest looking around for other hostels first, they were nice at times, but they seem very 'out-for-money', as there were almost ALWAYS people at the reception desk arguing with the staff about a money disagreement. And yes, I too had that problem. |

19 Mar 2011 Brady, Etats Unis:
After settling in, which was actually across the street in an old apartment building (not the "new, modern, hostel" they advertise on the front page), we immediately noticed a strong smell of cigarette smoke. Sure enough, everyone in the apartment was smoking. We were baffled, but at the same time we weren't because... they were nice enough to post No Smoking signs, yet, they provided ash trays! Does this make sense? When we mentioned this to the reception desk, we were asked to describe the people who were smoking. This was actually an odd question considering we said the other 4 people (of the 6 (we were the other 2 guests)) smoking. The reception desk told us that they couldn't do anything about it unless we described them. Two nights later, during the late afternoon, we arrived back in our room(since the room change they offered us never happened)to see an awfully familiar face sitting in the living room smoking... it was one of the female staff members. Very disappointing. |

The rooms were nice and they were all kept nice and clean. Location was great, 2 blocks from the beach. The staff was nice and outgoing, and even spoke various languages. However, after asking 2 questions or so, the staff would begin to be annoyed with you. This wasn't a huge issue, but it was obvious they would be more content not answering the 3rd and 4th questions about the area. It sounds as though I was just unlucky, but I never once took a warm shower (I showered 5 times), but other people have written reviews that the showers were indeed warm. The last thing I would like to mention is that I am not the only person to have to deal with money issues when checking in, it was actually semi-common to have to wait to talk to the staff since they were in the middle of a money dispute with the guests (always civil, rarely rude). I hope that this message gets posted as it is 100% factual, and the staff will be able to reply to this critique and explain why these things happened. |
