The Point Bonita Lighthouse is within walking distance of the hostel. The tunnel to the lighthouse is open Saturday, Sunday, and Monday from 12:30 to 3:30. There are beautiful views of the Golden Gate Bridge and San Francisco, and on clear days you can see north to Point Reyes and west to the Farallon Islands.

For the botanist and artist, the trails and access to native flora is excellent. There are many plants and flowers unique to the coastal habitat. There are a number of rare species one can photograph and document. Access to the California Coastal Trail is just outside the hostel.

We always hit The Long Life Veggie House on University in Berkely (maybe a half hour drive). Best vegetarian Chinese food I've ever had.
