Stay at the hostel and eat breakfast and dinner there. They serve dinner if at least several people want it. Otherwise, you might just get to eat with them. Awesome. Assisi is touristy.

Nightlife? Stay at the hostel and talk to the other visitors. I met a pilgrim who was awesome.

Wandering around the countryside. It's beautiful. And at rocca majore, you don't have to pay to go in - the courtyard is just as good and free. The town is nice, but touristy. Go to a service at the church.

Siena, Florence, Rome. Venice is a little disappointment - not a lot to do there. Just St. Peter's. Rome is expensive. This hostel is really nice. Stay here if you are in Rome and you will not be disappointed. The staff is friendly. The FREE breakfast and the FREE dinner are excellent for what they are - just don't expect the grande cuisine. Laundry is expensive - do it in the sink. Internet is free one hour per booking (you can book twice for a longer stay!). Afterwards, it's expensive too. Super-CONVENIENT from the train station - and that area is safe at night. Rome is small, and this hostel is within walking distance of everything - all the ancient sites, the trevi fountain, the spanish steps, the jewish ghetto, everything. They lead tours from the hostel - don't take those as they cost too much. Just do it yourself. Bring your own little padlock for the free lockers there. Reception friendly and 24 hours. Super. Oh, and don't book on hihostels anymore if you can help it. They have good places, but they cost more with the hihostels commission (even if you have the hihostel membership).
