Ishite Temple - even those who have seen way to many temples and shrines will be impressed by this place. Forget the over -rated fame and busy hot baths of Dogo Onsen. Take a bus to Okudogo onsen, about 30 mins out of Matsuyama city in the mountains. It has so many hot, cold and salt baths in a huge building. The name means Jungle Onsen, so called because it has so many tropical plants. The outdoor pool has stunning views of the mountainside. Where else can you sit in a hot spring outside, naked, next to a banana tree while admiring cherry blossom? This is so much better than Dogo Onsen! It's not crowded and is served by a regular buses.
