Bourbon & Branch (the Library) for a swanky but low key drink out. Its a speakeasy - see their website for password to get in. Its only 2 blocks from downtown HI.

California Academy of Sciences. For a fun & sort of touristy outing: Take the trolley to Pier 39. Get chowder to go and walk west down the Embarcadero clear to the end at Fisherman's wharf. Find a quiet spot near the working fishing boats for a picnic lunch. Option 2: Sunrise coffee & biscotti (Italian French Baking Co on Grant is yummy) walk up the crooked street - You'll have it to yourself. :)

Marin Headlands hostel across the Golden Gate Bridge, or up to Point Reyes if you're interested in outdoor pursuits away from urban congestion. If you're on public transportation, try Tahoe. You can take Amtrak to Sacramento and switch to an Amtrak bus (also there's a very beautiful hostel in Sacramento)
