Butano Redwoods State Park. Butano is just a few minutes drive from the hostel. It is one of the least crowded state parks in the Santa Cruz Mountains, and features beautiful old growth and 2cd growth redwood forests. |

Why go anywhere next? I stayed 3 nights at the hostel on this visit and may spend nearly a week when I go back again. |

Try the restaurant at Costanoa about 5 miles south (left side of road) on 101. It's a 1/4 mile drive up a lonnnng driveway. There is a big sign for it on 101. Costanoa is a luxury camping site (run by KOA). It also has a small store--and lodge rooms. Good food---and near by. There is also a smallish grill/restaurant (on left side of 101) just north of Costanoa--right beside the only gas station in the area. Didn't eat there, but they seemed to be doing good business. |

Clam chowder and tea on the Santa Cruz pier while viewing the coast. I loved the Dolphin restaurant. Best Clam Chowder ever. |

Go to Pacific Grove near Monterey. Check out wharf #2 for the seals and otters hanging by the fishing area at the end. Lulu's is a great place for lunch or breakfast on the pier. Opens at 7:30am but closes at different times like noon or 1pm. Check out the seafood omelete. Local seafood and mushrooms when available. |

Duarte's, in Pescadero, for the cream of artichoke soup and the cream of green chile soup...best mixed together! Follow that with an ollalieberry pie and you're set..NOt exactly budget (8 bucks for a bowl of soup...) but excellent nonetheless. I also went on the elephant seal tour at Ano Nuevo. Unbelievable. A definite must see. If it isn't in season, (they can tell you at the desk) (OH, one more thing: the hostel reserves the 10:00 tour for hostel guests, on weekends: make sure and ask!) Back to my original sentence, going to Pebble Beach was awesome (and free, as opposed to the 10 dollars for park beaches) "Tofoni" is the name for the weirdly shaped rocks, very like a painting from Dali |

Take a book or guitar, or reserve hostel's hot tub. Not a place for big partiers. |
