The restaurants in Harpers Ferry are good, but a bit pricey. They rely soley on tourists and there are no grocery stores. It was hard to find a "budget meal". Lunch cost me around twenty dollars, including tip for a good soup and sandwich and hot tea. |

Get out and hike!!! Its beautiful. Go up to the Appalachian Trail Center and talk to the volunteers. Stop into the National Park Headquarters where they design all the artwork for the national park brochures, a lovely little gallery. Just walk, walk, walk! I'm not much for standing around and reading signs, but the history there is amazing. Make sure you walk or bike the canal path. |

You can get to DC in one hour on Amtrak. I came and went that way, from Florida, and loved the whole little adventure. |

Take a flashlight and walk the footbridge to Harpers Ferry and go to the Silent Six Cafe for dinner. |

The hiking in Harper's Ferry is incredible- a hike up the Maryland Heights Overlook is well worth the effort- the overlook is absolutely lovely. The Appalacian Trail runs right through the town of Harper's Ferry, and a wander around the town will help you end up there. There was nothing we saw that wasn't beautiful. Look up for Bald Eagles!! |

Weverton Cliff. A pretty short hike that ends in a really breathtaking view of the hills and river. |

DON'T go down the road to "Cindy D's" I was warned it was a greasy spoon kind of place, but the service I got there was terrible. Far better to go the extra distance and buy some food somewhere else than to eat there. The Breakfast I ate at the Hostel was great though. |

For great nightlife, one doesn't come to MD in the first place, but if that's what you are looking for, travel on 341 a few miles and I'm sure something could be found. |
