The town is usually very quiet but on the last week of August there's a vibrant celebration with music bands and groups of people wandering all along the town, specially near the church.

I would reccomend to visit the whole island of Gozo. Apart from the most publicised places, I'd also try to go to: church of Ta'Pinnu, salt pans and the beautiful town of Xliendi. I'd also spend time taking a careful look at the buildings of the island, most specifically in Mgarr itself.
