Denner Supermarkets: For travellers on a tight budget, Denner offer a range of discount goods that work out much cheaper than many of the takeaways in the area. (The nearest to Bern hostel is above the Migros on Marktgasse, about ten mins walk away - Ask hostel staff for directions.) |

According to other travellers whom I met at the hostel; Zurich, Interlaken and Lausanne are all very popular destinations for those touring Switzerland, and I can certainly vouch for Zurich. All three cities (And indeed, most Swiss destinations) are very quick and easy to reach by rail from Bern using SBB InterCity services. Top tip: For those touring Switzerland by rail, a "Half fare card" (50% discount on rail fares - Also known as a "Half-tax" card) is well worth buying for the discounts that it offers both on SBB trains and a number of mountain railways. This is available from all SBB mainline stations, and is best bought alongside your first travel ticket. |
