HI Hostel Shenzhen LoftShenzhen is a legend in Chinese recent history. It has changed itself from a small fishing village to a metropolitan city in just over two decades. It is a catchment of all the elites both at home and from aboard. It holds certain degree of resemblance to Hong Kong (which is just a stone's throw away) but also differs with its own character in many ways. Hua Qiao Cheng (which means Overseas Chinese Town or “OCT”, originally developed by a group of Chinese returned from overseas who eventually settled down there) is a well-developed and managed community - a live record showing how this fascinating city evolves. Under the new social scenario, there is a movement that relatively old buildings and factories can be redeveloped to accommodate creative and design industry. The Creation & Art Park where the Loft Youth Hostel and Loft Modern Art Centre situate, is a classic example aiming to provide an environment for artists and designers all over the world to meet under one roof through which people can inspire each other with a mixture of traditional and modern outlook of China to produce a new vocabulary of design. The hostel is about 600m from underground Qiao Cheng Dong Stop (Exit A). It lies in a beautiful and lush green setting, adjacent to the modern art centre “LOFT” where exhibitions introducing both local and overseas art creations are held on a regular basis. Within the same place, there are bars, coffee houses, art galleris, fashion house and designer studios. The hostel turns a somewhat unattractive workers home into a simple but high quality budget accommodation and meeting place. The idea is to keep element of the original architecture and incorporate them with contemporary style extension. The scale, proportion and proper use of basic materials are all the important elements to show the power of simplicity. By applying a contemporary design ethos to an existing structure, it creates a vision of different stages of the local history. Our mission is to promote cross-cultural exchange, environmental awareness and social responsibility. We specialize in organizing youth exchange programme which helps young people's horizon and understanding. Our facilitateors are bilingual expatiates with immense international experience in this particular area. Hostel provides small dormitory, single room, twin room and family room, self-catering kitchen, laundry, Internet access and cafe. Take underground and get off at Qiao Cheng Dong stop, take exit “A”, then walk towards west for 2 minutes, turn right when seeing a petrol station and “Konka” Group sign, keep straight on for 5 minutes will hit a T junction, then keep left and follow the En Ping Street all the way through for 3-4 minutes, You will see a open car park and the hostel is next to it. From Hong Kong city or Hong Kong International Airport: Take direct bus to Sea View Hotel, which is only one stop further by metro from the hostel. From Hong Kong border (Lo Wu or Lok Ma Chau) take underground to Qiao Cheng Dong stop. (See rail/underground map at photo gallery) The LOFT modern art centre is just behind the hostel. Within walking distance, theme parks of Chinese folk culture and Chinese ancient architectures are worth to visit. Artists in the Chinese folk culture park are all genuine ethnic minorities coming from places all over the country. If you are looking for fun or excitement, Happy Valley or Window of the World theme park is the choice. Mangrove Nature Reserve (bird watching) at sea front (about 45 minutes walking) and botanic garden (15 minutes walking) away from the hostel. | more...... |
