Basel – Located on the River Rhine, Basel is one of Switzerland’s cultural centres. It has an unrivalled density of museums, including many with a worldwide reputation for excellence. It is also one of the best preserved Old Towns in Europe.
Bern / Berne – The Old Town has been featured in the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites since 1983. Guests at our group accommodation in Bern can visit this fabulous cultural site and enjoy the charm of the covered arcades, cobbled streets and decorated facades. Bern is also a great base for trips and excursions to the Alps.
Davos – Davos is the largest mountain holiday, sports and congress resort in the Alps and highest town in Europe. Our group hostel in Davos is near 320km of skiing pistes, 75km of cross-country skiing trails, skating and curling on 2 artificial ice rinks and the biggest natural ice rink in Europe.
Fiesch – Located in the Rhone Valley, Fiesch is a pretty town and an ideal base from which to explore the Goms Valley and the Jungfrau-Aletsch UNESCO World Heritage Site. The hostel offers countless outdoor activities and sports and included within the price is use of the indoor swimming pool, minigolf, disc gold and a variety of garden games.
Grindelwald – HI’s group hostel in Grindelwald is one of our most popular hostels in Switzerland for winter sports. In the summer, the stunning scenery and wonderful fresh air of this resort make it an ideal place to either relax or participate in the varied outdoor activities on offer, such as cycling and hill walking.
Interlaken - is located between two beautiful lakes and at the foot of the mighty Eiger, Monch and Jungfrau mountains. This is an area of stunning dramatic beauty which has been attracting group travellers since the 19th century. These days the town is famous for its endless summer recreational activities and winter sports.
Lausanne – Lausanne stands next to the northerly shores of the scenic Lake Geneva and close to the Jura mountain range. It has a wonderful medieval centre dominated by one of Europe’s most impressive Gothic cathedrals, the Cathedrale de Notre Dame.
Locarno – A year-round destination Locarno has something to offer to all types of group travellers. Skiing group? No problem – the Cardada-Cimetta mountain is on the doorstep and accessible via a cable car. Movie buffs? Don’t miss the annual film festival in August. Religious group? Locarno is home to the Pilgrimage church of Madonna del Sasso, believed to have been built as a result of an appearance of the Virgin Mary. Adventure sports group? Why not try paragliding here? Lucerne – On the shores of Lake Lucerne is a stunning city set in breathtaking scenery. Its most famous tourist attraction is the wooden Chapel Bridge as well as the Lion Monument, dedicated to Swiss soldiers who died in the French Revolution. Guests at our group accommodation in Lucerne can also visit the city’s many museums and art galleries as well as fine architecture.
Montreux –Interested in music? Then Montreux is a must-visit destination. The Swiss city welcomes thousands of visitors every year in July to its annual jazz festival which has now become a global phenomenon. Shania Twain and Freddie Mercury are two of the city’s most famous residents (don’t miss the statue of Freddie on the banks of Lake Geneva). And Deep Purple recorded their most famous song ‘Smoke on the Water’ here. Montreux is a haven for hikers with glorious trails through the Alps. There is a massive Christmas market every year and Chillon Castle, located on a rocky isle is one of the most visited monuments in Switzerland.
Schaan-Vaduz in Liechtenstein – Calling all cyclists and hikers! Why not put Liechtenstein on your agenda for your next trip? Because this tiny country has the most amazing hiking trails and also provides enough different terrain to keep even the most experienced mountain biker happy. Our hostel here is on the main "Veloland Schweiz" Rhine cycle route so is a perfect stop off point for some relaxation. Located in a rural setting the hostel looks out over fields and visitors in the summer can enjoy the stunning scenery whilst enjoying a barbecue. Whilst in the principality, you might also bump into royalty as they still reside in the castle. So why not visit somewhere different this year?
Saanen-Gstaad – This is a picture perfect village which is perfect for groups looking to visit either in the winter or the summer. A magnificent skiing destination and part of the Eggli ski area, thrill-seekers can book up a helicopter service for an off-piste experience. A hiking haven, the mountains in the region are suitable for all abilities and as with many of the villages in this region, they are completely pedestrianized. For history groups, Saanen is the historical heart of the Saanenland and has a unique character with narrow streets and lanes lined with old timber houses and dominated by the 15th century Mauritius Church.
