Bilbao – With a cycle route surrounding the city, Bilbao is a great destination for travellers wanting to mix the buzz of a city with the culture of an historic destination. Jump on your bike to see more than 70 sites of sculptural or architectural interest. Don't forget to pay a visit to the spectacular Guggenheim Museum where you can see the famous Jeff Koons floral puppy. Or if shopping is more your bag, then don't miss the La Ribera Market which is in the Guinness Book of Record for being the largest covered market in the world. Burgos (Espinosa de los Monteros) – The town of Espinosa de los Monteros is ideally located and very well-connected for group travellers wishing to visit other cities around Central-northern Spain, like Santander, Burgos and Bilbao which are just under an hour away. This historical and tourist town is the largest of the area and it’s the Capital of the Pasiegos of Burgos. An impressive Karstic landscape named Ojo Guareña can be found in this area and it also boasts one of the largest cave ranges in Spain. Visitors to the caves will be able to see many remains including ceramics, utensils, cave paintings, and engravings from different periods. Because the town lies in evergreen mountains, it also enjoys spectacular scenery and makes it a perfect location for groups who wish to enjoy bird watching or who want to explore the fabulous green spaces.
Cabrera del Mar – HI’s group accommodation in Cabrera del Mar is set in an idyllic location surrounded by woodland and only 4 km from the Beach and 29km from Barcelona and its many attractions.
Cáceres - Extremadura –Travellers who have stumbled upon this historic town have claimed that it is a gem worth keeping a secret from others! The winding cobbled streets have attracted film makers from around the world who have captured its unspoilt beauty. A true medieval town, Caceres-Extremadura is located in Western Spain and was made a world heritage city in 1996. A trip to the top of the cathedral for the spectacular views of the area is recommended as well as trying out the local restaurants and the renowned mojito!
Coma-Ruga – Our group hostel at Coma-Ruga is located adjacent to the beach and perfect for many water sports. Its close proximity to Barcelona makes it an ideal base to explore from, then relax on the white sand.
El Masnou – situated amongst nature and only 10 minutes walk from the beach and 18 Km from the beautiful city of Barcelona, El Masnou is a small village with typical Catalan traditions. Our group hostel in El Masnou is in close proximity to nearby vineyards and a variety of other coastal resorts, making this a perfect place for group trips to enjoy many different types of activities and holidays.
Granada – Home to one of the most brilliant jewels of architecture, the Alhambra, is a series of palaces and gardens built under the Nazari Dynasty in the 14th C. The size and complexity of the Alhambra means that visitors should ideally dedicate more than a day to truly appreciate its beauty. This ancient city has a great range of restaurants and delightful bars and groups wishing to combine sport and culture should visit during the ski season as the Sierra Nevada ski resort is less than an hour's drive away.
Girona – Much more than just a city which has an airport, Girona is a fascinating place with a rich and varied historical past. Often overlooked by visitors in favour of Barcelona, this city in Catalonia has a quieter pace but offers all the charm. Group visitors to Girona will love the Cathedral, Independence Square as well as the stunning ice-cream coloured houses hanging over the River Onyar. With a tradition of celebrating with good food and wine, there is often a Fiesta waiting for you to take part in. And if you are a cyclist or a golfer, then Girona would make the perfect base for your group to enjoy the top class nearby facilities.
Lleida – Lleida is a modern city offering high quality cultural facilities which have recently been enriched by the opening of the new University Campus. Lleida is also home to many festivals.
Llivia – A little bit of Spain in France. This town is about a mile from the Spanish border with a road which connects it to the rest of its country. Proudly Catalan, the town is most well-known for its music festival which is held in August as well as its museum which contains Europe's oldest pharmacy. Situated close to the Pyrenees, Llivia is also a great base for groups who want to visit in the winter with skis.
Madrid – Spain's vibrant capital city is an ideal destination for all manner of groups. Groups of friends and families wanting a fun filled weekend break will find bars and clubs that stay open till the early hours as well as world class restaurants. For art groups the world famous Prado Museum is a must and bargain hunters will be entranced by El Rastro, a huge outdoor market and one of the city's most popular tourist attractions. Tiana – Located just outside Barcelona, this pretty Catalan town has all the benefits of being in a vibrant country with good transport links into the hub-bub of the nearby city. With a growing trade in wine and cava production, this town is also home of the alternative musical festival Tiana Winter Fest, known for heavy metal and hardcore rock. Party on!
Valencia – This Mediterranean city located on the east coast of Spain has a special charm that only seaports have. Valencia is home to the historic Towers of the medieval city as well as cinema, theatre, museums, music, fans and lace work, Manises ceramics and much more. Zaragoza – Not usually top of a travellers list of destinations in Spain, Zaragoza can be unjustly overlooked. With a 2,000 year old history, the city is known worldwide as the home to the magnificent Pilar Basilica - thought to be the first church dedicated to Mary in the world. Easily accessible with an airport, train and bus stations, Zaragoza combines ancient with modern and would satisfy both art-loving travellers as well as foodies. When visiting the city be sure to pick up a Zaragoza card which will give you free entry into the city's museums, 24 hours free use of the tourist bus as well as a free drink and tapas in one of the city's bars.
