The Hypogeum is the only prehistoric underground temple in the world, and a must-see. This underground cavity is made up of halls, chambers and passages, which have all been excavated from the rock. It's one of nine UNESCO World Heritage sites in Malta and can only accommodate 80 visitors at a time, so be sure to book a ticket in advance. Other architectural wonders on the island include Renaissance cathedrals, baroque palaces and Neolithic temples.
