Berlin – Berlin is home to thousands of artists, writers and musicians and an array of attractions, from the Brandenburg Gate to the zoo and aquarium. Bonn – Located by the River Rhine, Bonn is the birth city of the greater composer Beethoven. Colditz – Colditz is a small German town situated in the beautiful valley of the Mulde River, 50km south of Leipzig. Surrounded by forests and lakes, this group hostel is a perfect location for outdoor and sporting activities. The town hall in the city centre is an example of the Renaissance influence. The town’s landmark is the famous castle of Colditz which is set on top of a cliff on the river Mulde and has an incredible history dating back from 1046 right through to the Second World War.

Cologne – Set by the River Rhine, the city's very name bears witness to its Roman past as the town of Colonia. As well as the legacy from Roman times and the Middle Ages, particularly the world-famous cathedral, guests at our group hostel in Cologne enjoy the city’s extremely lively arts and culture scene. Dresden – A modern city with a magnificent promenade which is set by the river Elbe. Guests at our group accommodation in Dresden can enjoy its many attractions and numerous historical monuments including the Dresden Zwinger, The Frauenkirche Church, Semper Opera House and Royal Palace and also a great variety of interesting museums. The greenest city in Europe, Dresden is also ideal for a visit to the nearby palaces and castles, or a walking tour to parks and gardens such as Pillnitz and Gross-Sedlitz, or the vineyards around Radebeul.

Dusseldorf – Set by the river Rhine, Dusseldorf is known as a centre of the German advertising and fashion industries. Guests at our group accommodation in Dusseldorf can visit the old quarter’s quaint passageways, old churches, traditional brewpubs, and restaurants - or stroll along the attractive riverside promenade to the Media Harbour, which world-class architects such as Frank Gehry have transformed into an architectural showcase.

Frankfurt / Main - The 5th largest city in Germany, Frankfurt is known for many things. Home to the tallest building in Europe, the skyline is a sight to behold. But don’t let that distract you. There’s the Rhine running through the city with dozens of boat tours and on either side of the Main there are museums to keep art lovers happy. Why not let the tram take the strain on a day tour of the city on the Ebbelwei Express. Be taken to all the sights in style whilst enjoying a glass of the local apple cider. Forget the ‘just for business’ image – Frankfurt is a city worth lingering in.

Fussen – On the banks of the river Lech, the old town centre is a maze of narrow medieval streets and magnificent baroque churches. Our group accommodation in Fussen is also well placed to enjoy the idyllic lakeland scenery amid the foothills of the Alps.

Hamburg – One of the most beautiful cities in Germany, Hamburg is full of maritime charm. Home to the second biggest European port, many attractions such as barge tours and museum ships are based around the water. The Altstadt (Old City) is also a big attraction for guests at our group hostel in Hamburg, as is the Sunday Fish Market, which seems to sell absolutely everything.

Leipzig – Situated in the heart of Saxony region, Leipzig is not only a city of art and culture, trade fairs, sports and numerous other events but also home of many writers, philosophers, artists and composers. Its extensive cycle network forms an easy path for visitors to get to the city centre where many bars, restaurants and shops can be found. Home to Johann Sebastian Bach and Wagner’s, our group hostel in Leipzig is great as a base for study trips in arts and music. With over 140 concerts every year in venues such as the Gewandhaus and with over 40.000 children attending, this is a place where young people are educated and inspired with music.

Nuremberg – The HI group hostel in Nuremberg is popular with history group trips, as this lively city has evidence of its 950-year history at every turn. Thick walls with 80 towers enclose the historical old quarter, and the medieval Kaiserburg Castle and museum are particular draws.

Rothenburg – This is Germany's best preserved walled medieval town and no surprise that this beautiful city has appeared in several films and served as the inspiration for the village in the 1940 Walt Disney movie Pinocchio. The HI group hostel in Rothenburg is perfectly placed for visits to The Gothic Church of St Jacob, the Kriminal museum or Mediaeval Criminal Justice Museum.

Stuttgart – In the heart of one of Germany's largest wine-growing regions, this vibrant metropolis has impressive gardens and parks, fine squares, splendid palaces and buildings in a wide range of architectural styles. Our group accommodation in Stuttgart offers easy access to such masterpieces as the medieval Old Palace, the baroque New Palace, the beautiful Art Nouveau market hall and the Bauhaus-style Weissenhof housing estate.

Wurzburg – Our group accommodation in Wurzburg is located in the beautiful vibrant Bavarian city right in the heart of Franconia, one of Germany’s most famous wine regions. The Wurzurg Fortress and the 100 churches still standing tall in the city are fine examples of art movements such as the Romanesque, Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque.
