Our arrival day was in the evening so we bought our dinner from a food truck around the corner on University Ave. Good stir fries and others. Bargain is the chicken vegetable stir fry with rice for $6.99'ish. Good volume. For lunch, campus student center after 2'ish or shortly before they close the food is marked down a bit. Selection goes down too. Or walk further down to a Japanese grocery on left on University Ave past H1 overpass for packaged sushi, etc. there's curry shop next door, but I didn't eat there. |

Bishop museum-- narration of some history of Hawaii, short hula lesson in sitting position, a planeterium show to learn how to navigate a ship using the stars, display of beautiful feather cloaks the ali'is wore, etc. look for a $3 coupon in the Oahu Gold brochure. Otherwise you get a small discount with AAA ( around $2?) Iolani palace is worth a visit too and Polynesian Cultural Center. ( did that on my last visit) At PPC, allow enough time in the afternoon to include not only dinner and show but to visit each of the villages and also catch the dances on the river and other demonstrations. Very educatioal and fun. Lots of walking. It is a bit pricey so take it all in. You get a 10% discount if you book online 10 days in advance for limited time. You can cancel or make changes up to 24 hours. Inquire to make sure. Definitely drive along the eastern, western and northern coasts. It's beautiful, lots of beaches and parks to stop at. A local woman was selling a plate of lau lau for $4. I never had one before. It's pork wrapped in taro leaf with a little Hawaiian salt and steamed. It came with Hawaiian portion of white rice and macaroni salad. It was the best! Hawai'i Plantation Village, visited on last trip. Very informative! Get to understand the roots of Hawai'i's multiculturalism. |
