It is on the edge of a Hutong so lots of eating places. If you like duck and happy to pay for it- a great duck restaurant down the lane.

Forbidden city, Tianemen Square, a day trip to Mutianyu ( Great Wall with less crowds but avoid the dried fruit sellers - got ripped off hugely)

The Uramqi Muslim restaurant (north on the lane in front of the hostel) offers delicious food at good prices. Get the red pepper eggplant dish.
