The large hotpot restaurant near the Jiousi train station. You get a lot of food for a reasonable price. Bring your cameras; it's a fun experience.

The Taiwan Drama Museum (台灣戲劇館). It's free and has a lot of exhibits about Taiwanese opera and puppetry. You can even try out the puppets for yourself and put on an opera costume or two.

Lo Dong night market is a nice place where u can spend the whole night. Just take the train to Lo Dong and walk for about 10 minutes to reach there.
