Oddly enough, Rijeka has very little to offer in terms of budget meals. If you're not into fast food, get to the supermarket early on and have something at the hostel, beahc or the castle.

The centre is small and pretty but there isn't much in terms of nightlife and things seem to shut quite early.

There is a tiny rocky beach nearby that is too crowded to be believed. If you venture further south a few miles, you'll find nicer beaches.

The town of Rovinj...about 2and1/2h by bus, it is absolutely gorgeous. easily done as a day trip
