Heading South, the next stop is Manchester (if you're a football fan and someone whom enjoys the nightlife) or Liverpool. Heading North, the next place is Loch Lomond or Glasgow.

Most of the hotels in Ambleside were worth a try. The pub in Ambleside which strangely enough used to be the old youth hostel was great for its ales and food.

The Churchill, quite a sporty pub but really nice atmosphere.
