Shanghai river cruise. Take a taxi to the bund. Walk all the way to the right, you will find a cruise terminal. There are at least 3 companies offering river cruise. Each comes with different rates and duration. (approx 100RMB for 50mins or 128RMB for 1.5 hours). Night view was much better than the day.

we didn't find much around the hostel but it's a short metro ride to plenty of great places

McDonald's is a short walk away. For me, living and working in a small town in Anhui, eating western junk food was like a small piece of Heaven!

I am not much of a bar-goer, but I did go to East Nanjing Road, which has some excellent outdoor bars. A bit pricey, at 30 RMB for a bottle, it's a nice, bustling place to hang out - and very foreigner-friendly.

The Bund is kind of impressive. With masses of PRC flags flying over the European colonial buildings - a really blunt political statement!
