Sustainability projects in Argentina

In 2011 HI Argentina will implement a communication system to raise awareness of sustainability within hostels in Argentina. They will encourage staff and customers to take part in the project and will promote best practices in order to become more sustainable. The communication system is based on the 4 elements of nature:

  • 1. Earth: HI Argentina will focus on waste recycling and, within the hostels that have the possibility; they plan to grow organic gardens.
  • 2. Air: The plan is to help reduce CO2 emissions by promoting the use of public transport and bicycles.
  • 3. Water: They will limit the amount of water use by taking better care of this natural resource in the hostels.
  • 4. Fire: They will encourage energy savings within the hostels.
In addition, they will partnership with the ‘Hospital Foundation Garraham’, which is the public children’s hospital of Buenos Aires. Together they will work on recycling projects to raise funds for the hospital. HI Argentina will participate in two of their programs: paper recycling and plastic cups recycling.
