Sustainable Development in Japan
Sustainability projects in Japan
JYH, the Japanese Youth Hostel Association, joined "Team Minus 6%”, which is a national campaign against global warming. “Team Minus 6%” was established in April 2005, as Japan’s international commitment to the Kyoto Protocol. It is a national campaign against global warming aimed at cutting greenhouse gas emissions by 6%.The team leader is the Prime Minister of Japan and the sub-leader is the Minister of the Environment. “I declare CO2 reduction of 1kg 1day 1person” is a movement, which forms part of the “Team Minus 6%” campaign and encourages people to take action for the reduction of CO2 emissions by 1 kg for 1 day for 1 person in daily life. They will be trying to prevent global warming by choosing from among 39 ‘daily tasks’ on a list and measuring the CO2 reduction. JYH will conduct educational activities to enlighten guests about the environment and they will also encourage youth hostels to arrange equipment and facilities that are less harmful to the environment.
