Sustainability projects in China
China is still a developing country and with a huge population every small effort counts when talking of sustainability. As part of our commitment to sustainability, when you visit China YHA hostels you will find some with solar water heating systems, energy saving light bulbs (or LED lights) and timer switches to save energy. In addition, the hostels are actively using reusable signage; coreless toilet rolls (for the reduction of paper and printed matters) and they are participating in a series of recycling activity. Energy-saving washers have replaced conventional washing machines and washed items are naturally dried, weather permitting, in order to help reduce carbon emission further. The understanding, support and commitment of China YHA hostel staff encourages hostel guests to share environmental experiences, learn from each other and become more involved in sustainable tourism. China YHA offer environmental programmes to enable travellers to get more involved with their conservation activity. They work in partnership with “Green” action groups from universities and organisations who share the same environmental objectives.
