I had a great stay at the Port Townsend hostel. The staff were very friendly and the breakfast was really organic and delicious. It was a bit difficult to find at night and I believe buses don't go close by, but I was driving. And the location is beautiful, in the middle of a state park with trails and quiet. You can even see the stars at night.

Overall, I was VERY pleased. Though I did feel quite uncomfortable when one of the guests informed me he was recently released from jail and had violated a restraining order, had spent time in a state institution for mental illness and was being mandated for a psych. evaluation. Thankfully he was in the male dorm and I was in the female dorm, but still! This made for a very uneasy night. Other than that I really enjoyed my 1st ever hostel stay. What kind of screening takes place, so guests are truly safe?

This is such a lovely hostel, in such a lovely location. I stay there often to visit friends in the area, but it's a destination in itself. So peaceful! I stayed an extra day (3 nights in all) just to hang out there a bit. I just love this place, and I want to bring my sister and her kids there next year. I'm sure they will love it, such a fun place for kids to run around, too. Oh, and I love the common room. I like curling up on the couch and looking out over the meadows and water.

It would have been a bit more convenient to be able to check in at maybe 4 pm instead of 5 pm. Great bus connections to Port Townsend and other areas from Port Townsend.

My friend and I had a great time touring the Olympic Penninsula using the Fort Worden hostel as our home base. The lady that pinched my toe and put a pillow over my face (and another elderly lady) was the only exception. Guests should be offered ear plugs and encouraged to shut up and wear them.

For reservations, it is better to call than to use the booking engine online. You get a better sense of what's available and the cost, esp. if you're not an HI member.
