Two different guests during my brief stay left their cell phone cord plugged in all day while they were out. To save electricity, I suggest that you put a brief notice in the guest rooms next to each electric outlet requesting guests to not leave cell cords plugged in... many people do not know that this wastes electricity. (This issue happens to be the subject of public interest advertising in Seattle, but many people likely think that when the cell phone is not attached to the cord, that the flow of electricity stops.)

Staff was wonderful, very friendly and knowledgeable about the area. For the most part I thought the place was clean, safe and secure (aside from the fact that someone stole 1/2 a loaf of bread I left in the cupboard, which was clearly labeled--one facet of hostel living that I'll never get used to!!) Great location, just a block or so from the beach. The rooms are NOT air-conditioned, which made me miserable some nights. There was a fan in my room, but it was mounted on the wall and didn't provide much comfort. The other guests were friendly from diverse backgrounds, which was great because I like to meet people from all over the world.

I really enjoyed my stay at HI Waikiki. The staff was super friendly and very helpful, the location was great because it's two blocks from the beach (but go swimming at night if you want to avoid the crowds) The hostel is also conveniently located near the Bus for transportation all over the island. I would definately stay here again!

If I could rate higher than "very good" then I would! I *highly* recommend Jack's island tour. I learnt some fascinating information and thoroughly enjoyed eating Hawaiian pineapple on the north beach while watching the sunset! Plus, it's extremely good value for a 10 hour tour!! Do this tour early during your stay - you'll end up with lots of ideas for morning/afternoon trips.

As hostels go, this is a great location, minutes from Waikiki beach & close to everything. The manager of the hostel stood out to me as being extremely helpful with everything I had to ask him about - even lending snorkels, boogie boards, and the ever important aftersun. It's value for money, we had a private room which was clean & not noisy in the slightest!
