The location is great and the atmosphere is very young and vibrant. The only downside is the amount of noise for those of us who value peace and quiet from ~ 8:30 pm +. The music is still blaring and there are no windows from the inner hall and you have shutters. They do very little to help with the noise also. Aside from that, its very nice, great staff, easily available computer lab, good food with prime real estate. You can't have it all for such a great price.

My only criticism is that the place is a bit too noisy... At times, the decibel level in the Cantina, and in the rooms exceeds perhaps 70 db. and at times perhaps is as high as 90 db. The whole place in great however... the entire staff is friendly and the SECURITY TEAM I trust completely...

Generally a well-run, friendly and lively hostel excellently situated in the historic centre. Arriving late at night with small children in tow, we were at first worried by the noise from the café on the ground floor but it all (including the dancing in the square outside) calmed down after about 22:00. In fact if you are looking for night-life its probably the wrong part of the city altogether. They could do with more doubles and family rooms - we ended up taking a 6 bed dorm for 5 of us. The café is variable: some dishes are good while others are a real disappointment. The breakfast is OK though wholemeal bread (rather than just the sweet white sliced pan) and above all REAL COFFEE would improve it greatly. The included dinner is a waste of time most days.

This was one of the noisiest and worst hostels I have ever stayed. The breakfast and dinner was terrible. I will not be recommending it too anyone and will be sharing my views with hostelz.com and hostelworld.com etc.

A great place to stay as long as you're not a light sleeper. The hostel is right on the Zocalo and you can easily access all parts of the city from it. Breakfast is simple, as is dinner, but the restaurant/ bar has a good selection of food at good prices. The lockers in the rooms are large (can easily fit a backpack), however, not all rooms have power points (they're in the bathroom), and when the hostel is full, it can be difficult to use the bathroom (one shower between ten people in some cases).

the rooms could have curtains on the windows, the glassbricks could be painted to make the rooms more dark at night and the rooms could have air-circulators

Despues de un tour por otras ciudades de México, la vuelta al hostel Catedral fue como un retorno al hogar. Espero que manden las postales que dejé alli...!!!
