nice place, however having a few people each evening smoking pot in a rear patio off the dinning area was not appropriate for an H I hostel. Also the hostel in LaFortuna has "droped out" of the organization, will not take reserations.

We had booked a twin room for 4 nights. The mattress on the single bed was so thin that it was most uncomfortable to sleep on . We wrote a letter to the manager complaing about the mattress. The manager said she was aware of the mattress and no one else had ever complained and told us if we did not like it we could leave. I pointed out that at least half the mattress in the dorms were better than the one we had to use for 4 nights it would be easy to swap. She was not interested and repeated we could leave. The whole situation became most unpleasant and we were accused of bullying her, Eventually she said she would see what she could do while we were out during the day. The managers reaction to the situation was not typical HI hostel. The mattress was swapped over during the day solving the problem. We are life members and we have stayed at many hostel over 30 years and familar with hostel standards

There was no booking when I arrived and although I had my printed booking confirmation, the hostel had not received any notice from the HI website. The hostel was full and I could not stay there. as it was lat ein the night the hostel staff had the frendliness to help me find a different hostel in the neighbourhood. However, that hostel was not very cmfortable and did not feel safe.
