The location was almost perfect for my needs, the staff was very pleasant, the place was clean and maybe best of all, there were reading lights and outlets for each bunk. Appreciated the breakfast, especially the teas, cream cheese and fruit.

Two specific examples of the appallingly poor service: we were given a key card to a room that already had an occupant. This made us very apprehensive about leaving anything in our room in case this was a regular occurrence (strangers being given keycards to our room). Upon checking out we brought our towels down to the front desk (as is the custom with most hostels, incl. your old location). We were abruptly told that we would have to take the towels back up to the third floor, which we did. I walk with a cane and have difficulty with stairs. The elevator was apparently not in operation. I compare this with the unwaveringly friendly and courteous service I had enjoyed over half a dozen stays at your old location near Pike Place. Based on this last experience I cannot recommend HI Seattle anymore.

Whenever I come to Seattle will book my stay at HI, American Hotel. Loved the care to all aspects of hospitality.

Efficiency of service is zero in my book. I had to change from a dorm to a private and I asked for a new key. They couldn't let me in the private because they couldn’t find the key to magnetize my new key. When I asked them when they could make me a key, they said they didn't know! I asked them if I could leave my belongings at the front desk until I could change rooms. They wanted wanted 5 extra dollars for storage! At that point I was furious, as I had paid more than 200 dollars for a 3 night stay and that the least they could do was let me in my room. I complained that I thought it was unprofessional and unacceptable not being able to give me a key while I paid already. When I showed my discontent and demanded a key right now, they 'magically' turned up a main key and made me a key in half a minute. No apology offered. The most unprofessional and unfriendly staff I have ever experienced. If you look for a friendly, value for money and nice atmosphere hostel, skip this place.

The bathroom should be better monitored, perhaps on per-day basis. On the night I stayed, I find one toilet was out of order and the flush toilet was flooded with excrement.

This was the cleanest hostel I've ever been to. Remarkably quiet, especially given that it was on Halloween. Having free wireless internet, and 4 outlets per bed was exactly what I needed after spending the previous week struggling to find those on my journey. The cubbies were great to have so that everyone's junk doesn't just clutter up the floor.

Goooooooood :) very comfortable hostel. If I have a chance to visit there again, I want to visit for next time.
