Great hostel, I loved the spacious kitchen and pancake breakfast, and the large and comfortable living room, although I still think the HI "lockout" hours are a bad idea.

As always, my stay at the Monterey Hostel was a delight. My "home away from home" when in Monterey, usually two or three times a year, it's one of the nicest hostels in the United States. Ideally situated for walking or bicycling, one block from Kinkos and the UPS store, two blocks from a great supermarket and a CVS pharmacy as well as a Subway sandwich shop, three blocks from Cannery Row and all its activities, four blocks from the bike path connecting Cannery Row to downtown Monterey. The hostel is spacious and comfortable, with free Wi-Fi and bottomless coffee as well as pancakes and waffles in the morning (and on occasion bagels). The staff is always helpful, the showers hot and bathrooms clean (and kitchen too.) There's simply no better place to stay when in Monterey!

The staff members were all great--very polite and helpful and worked hard to make everyone comfortable--to allow those of us arriving late to settle in with minimum inconvenience or disturbance to those sleeping. They also solved a glitch problem I had making my booking over the internet.

Just stayed one night but just that night made me wish I'd had more time in Monterey, very very lovely hostel. Had I styed longer, I might have wanted bigger lockers for my stuff (inside) though.
