|It was annoying to have the length of showers monitored by the token system as it meant that I couldn't easily wash my hair.
There were no lockers in which I could store things securely while out, which I thought was very poor. Also, especially given this, I did find it disturbing that when I popped back in the middle of the day the door to my room had been propped open (apparently to allow cleaning) leaving all my belongings on show and vulnerable to theft! I wouldn't stay at the hostel again for this reason, despite all other aspects of my stay being fine.|
|Iam aged 45. It is 20 yrs since my last stay in a youth hostel. It exceeded my expectations. I am sure to introduce my son to youth hostelling over the next year as we explore California.
Special mention for the staff. They were great. |
|I stayed in the men's dorm (the Sea Lions?Otters?), and after 4 days my back was feeling the effects of a too-soft mattress. Other than that, this was a great town, great hostel visitors, and I hope to be back next year.|
|Nice place but very boring. Very little interaction among the guests and staff compared to other hostels. |
|Few blocks from Monterey Bay Aquarium and the coastal trail, this hostel has big living room, plenty of space for myself or with friends. Very clean and organized. Highly recommended.|
|Really good location and excellent price. Just wish they had a stove instead of electric pots|
|I was there for a scuba class and staying at the HI-Monterey Hostel was a great bonus surprise! I will 5 star yelp you! |
|Very pleasant, with comfortable large common room.|
|I've been here many times and is just awesome|
|The night staff was an elderly man who told us next time we couldn't come in at that time- that we were lucky someone came to the door because usually no one is there. This contradicted what we had been told and he said to inform the day staff that wasn't true. We found that to be annoying as we were just guests its not our job to inform them of anything. Also 10:30 is an early check out most hostels are at 11. I worked at a hostel before and have extensive hostel travel experience. I have never seen guests asked for donations for breakfast or card readers at a computer for Internet time.
All in all the hostel was just ok. At least it was clean|
