a decent enough place, would stay again. The hike in from Harpers Ferry was lovely, but they could use a little sign on the road to point the way. I missed the path over the railroad tracks once, and felt a bit insecure, being a 55 year old woman by myself!!! There are no grocery stores in Harpers Ferry, so if you come in through that town, make sure you bring provisions. The area is beautiful with quick access to the AT, my whole reason for coming. Free pancake breakfast was fun.

Only problem was my brother snored so I could not sleep. I enjoyed the location and pancake breakfast in the morning. We left our car at the hostel and biked the C&O towpath to DC and took the train back to Harpers Ferry Sunday afternoon. Group of courteous Luxembourgese students stayed the night and cleaned up kitchen in the morning. Staff caterred to my brother who wanted to see movie in Fredrick.

My friend and I had a wonderful stay at this Hostel. It was clean and filled with treasure- a backpacker's exchange closet, book shelves for book exchanging and a refrigerator where one could take or leave 'free for all' food. The atmosphere was friendly and laid back, and no one seemed to be in a rush. Although the Hostel closes during the day (lock out hours) we didn't feel rushed out. It was like staying at your friend or relative's house! Be careful with your directions- we had a bit of trouble finding the place, but when we called to ask for help we were rewarded with great directions.

The only nearby restaurant has crappy food and the only nearby place to buy groceries is outrageously expensive. The actual location is good for overnight hikers and bikers on the C&O Canal.

This was by far the friendliest and homiest hostel I've ever stayed in. We were on a first-name basis with the staff in a matter of minutes, and they not only welcomed and chatted with us, they also provided some valuable tips about the trails and local attractions. The area is very scenic, and the free pancake breakfast is the perfect fuel for a long hike.

I had a great stay! The staff was extremely helpful, especially Julia, who went out of her way. The kitchen was clean and the pancakes for breakfast were a wonderful treat.

This was my first stay at an HI Hostel. It was a great experience, and I fully intend to use your services in the future. Thank you!!!

Great Hostel. Really well run. Good price, comfort, everything. Only downside is the location. My GPS didn't hardly know where the place was, and took me in the back way. But if you can use your head to find an address, then this obstacle is easy enough to overcome.

Hostel response:
Thanks for the kind words! There is something to be said about the usefulness of old technology :) Sometimes good old fashion maps are the way to go. You can find directions to the hostel on our webiste and we welcome any phone calls if you ever find yourself lost in the woods. We look forward to your return visit.
