The girls of this hostel are very friendly and helpful. If the girls are on duty, the bathrooms are clean and toilet papers are filled. Except this, we could not find the same standard as other hostels. No computers, no wi-fi, no breakfast, dark and dirty living room, always sb.sleeping in the living room... Anyway, the painting on the wall and floor are nice.

Worst hostel I have ever stayed in,could not believe it was a HI.The hostel was dirty, the kitchen a health risk, it was not cleaned whilst we were there. There was food all over the tops and floor the unwashed pots just stacked in the sink for days, flies everywhere.Common area dark and dingy. We had trouble checking in with our booking made online months previously. They didn't have the right room even though the hostel was empty so we had to change rooms the next day and they couldn't/wouldn't understand. Got no sleep for three nights running thanks to noisy guests, drunk Canadians playing ball games in corridors all night up to 5am kept the whole hostel awake bar the manageress who slept through it all (no one on reception). No advice on tours, transport, trips etc.We checked out four nights early and booked somewhere else but we were told our refund would be credited in four weeks time.Unacceptable and unheard of.We are still waiting for our money.A terrible experience.

the room and bathrooms were dirty, the pillows and duvets so smelly that we couldn't use them, our room was lacking a window (!!), rowdy guests in the corridors prevented any sleep, too few bathrooms so they were always busy, I would not stay here again

this was my worst hostel experience ever. For context: ive been traveling for a year now (south america, nz, oz, europe) & have never had such horrible service. i arrived at 11pm as i told them in advance, with my confirmation in hand, but still, they gave away my room. the guy just said something like, "wow, bummer, what can you do? do you want us to kick someone out of their room?". while i was calling other hostels trying to find a space, another guy staying at Alaska Backpackers comes in & says, “hey, there is someone in my room. ive been out all day & I paid for a double and now there is someone in it”. he got a similar response. "dude, do you want me to kick him out?" not that i expect 5* service in a hostel, but i do expect a room when i have a confirmed booking from HI. i hope someone punches the guy who works there some day for his utter lack of professionalism & incompetence. until then, i suggest you don't make a reservation here unless you don't really want a room.

Management needs to tighten clean-up of kitchen counters and dishes; Common room and dormatories need much better energy-efficient lighting; Clean or replace furniture in common room; install cubbies for food storage; set up internet usage - preferably free; dorms need ladders for all top bunks; No smoking outside dorm windows; provide info on H.I.

The hostel has a great location--within walkingi distance of the Alaska railroad in Anchorage, as well as the Park Connection buses...staff was very friendly and helpful...we felt very comfortable here.

Doors to rooms particularly on hte ground floor require soundproofing on the rood frames. They bang loudly when closing. Not good for trying to sleep. Kitchen facilities primative-could do with an overhaul of equipment.

We stayed only one night as it was not as good as we would have liked. Probably reasonable value for money but did not meet our requirements.
