Two staff members could have been more helpful. Early on, I needed to change rooms because a strong sewage leak seeping into my room. The staff member was unwilling to investigate and very reluctantly switched me to another room.

Toilet-only bathrooms should have a wall-mounted hand sanitizer; Internet room should perhaps have a sign notifying users to make sure they have a pen ready to write down the access code after they are done using the Internet. Otherwise, all cool and hoping to visit soon again.

I found the staff (except for one person) not very helpful, even snobbish. I don't know if it is me (in fact, I have enough customer's service experience to know it is not me), but I do not appreciate the service in that hostel in San Francisco. The staff isn't smiling, helping, and is even answering questions in a way that makes you feel somehow stupid.

I was catching a flight out on a Sunday mid morning and realised at 6am that morning that the trains do not start until 9:30am, which was a stress. The staff on the front counter was like "oh well, you will just have to pay $50 for a cab to the airport". Thankfully I went for a quick wander outside to the metro station and found out that there was a shuttle bus running from across the street every 15mins! That is the Hilton across the road from the hostel less than 20metres from the door of the hostel and the staff refused to tell hostellers about it as it wasn't the one they pre-book for people! Unbelievable!

Good location, good security and lockers. Private room was pricey, and I didn't like the fact there was not communal washrooms with shower stalls. The single washroom and toilet was not as efficient as you had to wait for your turn, and I felt rushed taking a shower cause others also had to use the washroom.

Even though I dressed in a business suite for a conference I was attending for school in SF, the staff was very accepting. Great location. Social atmosphere.

I read a very negative review of this hostel and would like to counter it, but I can't remember where I saw it online. If you know where it was( it babbled on about a meth adicted desk person, etc.), I'd like very much to write a great review of Union Square HI.
