| i had bkd a single room but i was put in a 4bed dormitory on my own. the door would not lock. the bathroom was not nearby as i had to go down a staircase to get to it. the bunks were very uncomfortable. there was no table or desk or lamp in the room where u cld sit & read or write etc. the ceiling light was too dim so i was not even able to read in bed. very disappointed and i checked out after only 1 night of discomfort. | Thoroughly enjoyed our visit but would suggest than people are told how to open room door(post it at side of door) - not everyone is used to turning the handle sharply UPWARD to open door!! I can vouch that it's a long way down(80 stairs) to reception and back to find out. (225285) | |||

| We had a few problems with the door on our room. It either didn't close all the way when we left (so that anyone would be able to walk in) or it didn't open with our key cards. Also, a lot of people that only stayed for one night and didn't have time to master the opening of the door (push handle all the way down, put key card in and out, then shove handle up and bodycheck the door) got stuck outside of the room at 1 or 2 in the morning which would wake up everyone else in the room.
Also, it would be nice if each bed could have it's own light...the hostel in Edinburgh had this and it worked out really well because people could read or come in late without waking up everyone else by turning on the light.
The decor was very cool in the statute gallery, library, dining room and lounge, but it would be cool if the dorms and bathrooms could follow the same theme instead of looking thrown together. (218048)

(200618) | |||

| poorly equiped self catering kitchen and very small dining room : hostel seems to focus on its restaurant. toys and games were a mess and/or broken... we left a bit dissapointed. (199858) | |||

| This hostel caters for large groups of teenagers that tend to be a bit selfsentered: lots of noise til very late at night / the early morninghours. Quiet hours are virtually non-existent. This combined with poor sound proofing of the rooms (sometimes still thin connecting doors between rooms in place) makes for very poor sleepingfacilities.
The kitchen is unusually poorly equipped for those of us who want to cook their own meals and aboslutely substandard compared to the average SYHA-hostel.
Heavy smoking in nearby dorms did not trigger the firealarm, which makes you wonder about overall standards and safety.
If you want a good nights' rest: steer clear! (198542)
