First impression was that the dormitory could do with a bit of plaster and paint and tile fixing in the bathroom. The kitchen equipment was basic and I gave up on that. But this was well made up for by the friendliness of everyone, the lovely building and it made a very good base for exploring the Vezere valley.

The hostel is located in a beautiful 12th century abbey. The rooms are clean with appropriately spartan interiors and modern bathrooms. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful, and was very patient with my attempts to speak French. Breakfast is served in a spacious dining room with a kitchen that is obviously designed to cater to large groups. Unfortunately, the kitchen is not open to hostel guests. Instead, there is a very small kitchen with virtually no inside seating in an adjoining building. A sign there stated that there had been damage from a flood and that they hoped to remodel it in the near future. Still, this was not enough to prevent me from rating the Cadouin hostel at the top of my list of favorites.

Newly-fitted out rooms which were very clean. Kitchen is a disaster - no one would want to use it.

We have just enjoyed our 5th vist to the hostel at the Abbey in Cadouin. As always, we have had a very pleasant stay. It is a beautiful setting, the rooms are fine, the staff are friendly and helpful and the abbey is magnificent. We look forward to visiting again next year when we travel once again to France from Australia.
