first class hostel, quiet a surpise for such a remote location, even the internet worked properly!

Room too small for 2 adults. No WiFi even though advertised. Not happy at all. NO TV. Miserable little room.

The overall cleanliness of the hostel was quite poor - dirt and garbage in the hallways and rooms. As well, one of the paper towel dispensers in the washrooms was not working - as had been the case in mid-August when I stayed at the Lake Louise hostel. This sort of thing should be attended to and not go unresolved for over a month! The Lake Louise hostel is a fabulous facility, but managers need to pay much closer attention to the day-to-day maintenance needed to keep it in proper condition. The place is beginning to look somewhat run-down and unkempt.

The beds we had in our private room were really uncomfortable. I understand it's basic accommodation but it was $100, for which one could get other accommodation options.

Amazing hostel, more like a chateau! Really great location in Lake Lousie, beautiful suroundings at the best price. Free wifi not very good/strong signal, but really nice fireplace to sit around while trying to connect!

Whilst the hostel does those extra things very well, namely the restaurant and lounge areas, the same cannot be said for the basics. The en-suite toilet had not been cleaned properly, the door required slamming to close (appreciated by everyone in the room if someone went to bed later) but the icing on the cake really was the public kitchen. That was filthy, barely equipped and it appeared as though the staff either hadn't visited it for months or simply didn't care. All I can say is that it made me seriously doubt whether a Canadian version of an Environmental Health Agency even exists. Your mothers would be ashamed of you if they saw the state of that place. An utter disgrace.

This was previously my favourite hostel and I brought my husband back 8 years later to share it. This experience was terrible. The Australian girl who checked us in, I believe her name was Melissa, was very rude. Instead of saying hello, she simply barked "ID?" When we asked about the wireless internet we were told that it hadn't been working for 3 days but that we could have the code and try for ourselves. When I asked whether it was going to be fixed she said she didn't know. When we checked out the night auditor looked up, took our keys and did not say a word to us which I find quite rude. In terms of security, other than to get into the room there are no locks on any doors. There were people using the kitchen who were not guests. Another man, who was not staying at the hostel asked us for the internet password whilst sitting in the lounge room. This hostel is quite expensive by hostel standards and without internet and with rude staff it isn't very good value for money.

As we arrived by Greyhound bus we had no vehicle to travel the 5+ km up to the lake and the trailheads for the hikes. I was surprised that there was no shuttlebus and we had to take a taxi. I really think some kind of public transportation from the village to the Chateau would be a great addition.
