It's very noisy here. This hostel is in the middle of a large construction site. So most mornings there I'd the noise of trucks and earth movers. It looks like they will be building there for the next year at least. With all the building going on I wonder if the hostel is getting a renovation because you can clearly hear people talking who are in the next room. This also adds to the noise factor.

A good hostel overall. It lacks character but no major problem with this place. It does lack a comfortable lounge area for socialising, etc so it is difficult to meet other people. The kitchen and associated dining areas are well maintained. The staff do their job well. The dorm rooms are somewhat cramped but serviceable. The bathrooms are quite good. One thing though, the bunks have no reading lights, which quite simply astounds me. Hostel response: Thank you for taking the time to leave a review. Black haired woman who works the nights, sleeps on the job, is never happy and makes guests feel unwelcome. Hostel response: Thanks for taking the time to review the hostel. I am very sorry to hear about your experience at the hostel. I have spoken with the staff in question and she was feeling a little under the weather, which resulted in less than stellar performance. There wasn't elevators. so uncomfortable. Hostel response: Thanks for reviewing our hostel. HI-Calgary was built in 1976 with only 2 stories. We do have a storage room on the main floor if you have lots of luggage that you do not need during your stay. We will also be happy to assist with your luggage to your room if needed. There are also rooms on the main floor, so next time you come back, please inquire as to their availability and we’ll see what we can do to make your stay more comfortable. Take care! Great location with very helpful and friendly staff who went out of their way to help guests, whether they were large groups or solo travelers . I found all the staff great from the manager to the domestic staff. There was some road works going on in the area which was a bit noisy in the daytime but not really a big deal and the end result of the districts regeneration will be a positive for the hostel. I would definitely stay there again and gladly recommend it to anyone I met. The location is very convenient to the city and local attractions. The hostel was very well run, clean and secure.
