| The Hostel generally works well, in a practical location, but there are two areas where La Manu failed to respect the FUAJ Hostel principles (google FUAJ charte ethique)
#1, I asked staff, including the director, about recycling in the hostel, and found, despite labels on bins and sacks marked for different materials, that there is no recycling, despite FUAJ's eco-citizen claim, and Nantes being Green Capital of Europe 2013. Disappointing.
#2, The director, Lionel, came to my room, because someone else had been reported for smoking in the room (which I gather was true), and attacked one of the other with racist and xenophobic slurs ('this is MY country, you're a dirty Arab s**t,...). This also breaks FUAJ's principle regarding racism and xenophobia.
Bring a small lock to lock up valuables in the closets in the rooms. I had cash stolen from the room and someone used my bank card details.
This should be a great hostel in a fun city to visit, but needs some changes. Antwort des Hostels: | ||

| Overall I was disappointed by the hostel. Having budgeted 20euro for the nights stay I was told on arrival I needed to be a member of hosteling international and pay an extra 11euro, this was not mentioned on the website at the time of booking. I found the hostel difficult to find and in an area that didn't feel very safe. Unfortunately it seems to be the only youth hostel in Nantes. Antwort des Hostels: | ||
