| One evening I arrived back at the hostel and rang the bell at the door but no one unlocked it. Myself and another guest waited for almost 20 minutes ringing the bell. We walked down the the car entrance and that was unlocked (which shouldn't have been). I also decided to check out two days early because my plans changed. The lady at the desk said she could not give me a refund for the remaining days because I had reserved for four days. Thankfully my Brazilian friend was there to help me as the woman did not speak much English. She said she did not have any cash so I asked if she could reverse part of the charge on my credit card and they told me they did not know how to do that. Eventually after much argument between the lady and my friend, she gave me a refund in cash. I have never heard of a place that says guests cannot check out early.
