Congratulations to the Team at Morag’s Lodge for winning ‘Team of the Year’ – a business excellence award given by Hospitality Assured, the quality standard created by the Institute of Hospitality.

The lodge, which is owned by Haggis Adventures, is operated by a dedicated team of local highlanders and forms part of the SYHA Hostelling Scotland’s network of 67 hostels.

The team at Morag’s Lodge were praised for being ‘extremely active in the local community’, ‘epitomising Highland Hospitality’ and helping to convert visitors into ‘Ambassadors not just for Morag’s Lodge, but for the Highlands and Scotland’ as a whole. Their hard work helped increase revenue by 9% in 2011, compared with 2010 as well as increasing repeat business.

One example of the team’s innovation was their response to customer feedback about the evening meal menu. Many customers stated that they would like to see more Scottish, local, and seasonal food on the menu - and as a result the team decided you can’t get much local than their garden.

Inspired to grow more they teamed up with community gardeners who use volunteers from deprived areas of Glasgow who came to Morag’s Lodge for a long weekend in March. A series of workshops on various topics took place and the Morag’s Lodge team got the training and knowledge, which helps them grow fresh, organic produce for their kitchen. This initiative helped increase meal sales by 10% on the previous year, as well as increase customer feedback when asked ‘Did meals offer good value for money’ by 8.5%.

Morag’s Lodge is a perfect base for exploring Loch Ness and the Great Glen. Ideal for families and groups with a range of good facilities which include twin and double en-suite rooms, a bar with an open fire and regular live music.
