Italian-Hostels-Create-a-Music-Masterpiece-for-Youths!

The Osthello Musica project is a joint initiative between AIG Italian Youth Hostels and the Dipartimento della Gioventu to encourage young people to develop their music skills and creativity.

As well as providing a space in which to practice, the hostels involved are a meeting place for internationally reputable tutors to share their industry knowledge with youths interested in music and instruments. The pilot has been rolled out at two HI hostels, San Sisto in Bologna and the Mario Spagnoli hostel in Perugia, and includes a program of musical clinics, seminars and recording sessions. The primary goal of the project, aside from creativity and fun, is to show the local communities that hostels are a place where interests in cultural activities and early career aspirations can be realised by young people. At the very heart of hostels is a sense of community, sharing and friendship all of which Osthello Musica embraces fully. . After just a few months early results show there has been a lot of interest in the project, facilities are being utilised and young people in the area are enjoying having these resources on their doorstep. The project has also extended into other activities at additional hostels, namely a cinema at the Florence and Cagliari hostels; a theatre at Genova and Naples hostels; Visual arts in Matera and soon to be opened - journalism in Trieste. If you would like any further information about Osthello Musica – how to get involved or perhaps to stay at one of the hostels - please check out the hostel pages for contact details and booking information.
