Viseu is the capital of the district, perched on a plateau in between the many mountain ranges of the region, near the rivers Paiva and Dão. This town recalls the story of the national hero Viriato who, like Asterix, gave the Romans a good beating. Viseu has a rich historical legacy which is known to students of Portuguese history and culture. So why not come and see the town's main church and the Grão Vasco museum? Or challenge the laws of nature and practise mountain biking, canoeing, hang-gliding and other adventure sports.

| A pleasant stay in a single use room with own bathroom. The staff offered an earlier breakfast for me when they learned I was away 1 hr before the usual breakfast time - that was appreciated. Check-in wasn't possible until after 7pm which I wasn't aware of when I booked. Not such a problem and perhaps it is mentioned somewhere on the website but could catch some people out if they arrived at 3-4 pm. Viseu center is an easy 10 minute walk from the hostel. | ||

| This is a nice, somewhat sterile, hostel. The rooms are clean and beds are comfy. The bathroom was clean and showers hot with good pressure. Breakfast was basic but good with toast, cereal, slice of ham, slice of cheese, jam, coffee, tea, milk and yogurt. There was no internet available. But parking was free and easy.
